I try to catch a good bit of live music and every once and a while you get to see some new talent that just blows you away. It was a double bill of Sonya and Ben. Ben opened and he is his father’s son but you can also that he is trapped in James shadow. Fighting it with tattoos and a shaved head but yet mentioning it three times during the show. Lots of raw talent that need a few more years on the road to work the demons out.

Sonya Kitchell was just the opposite shy chatting with the audience but as she started to sing she owned the room. I was blown away. Writes, sings, and can play. But the best part is she is 17! Which you would never guess. She reminds me of a young Jonny Lang but with more depth. Go see her. Drive 100 miles. You won’t be disappointed. ’cause she won’t be playing small clubs for long.
